About

Christina Hohenwarter

Christina currently lives with her family in the Southern Palatinate/Germany.

Her artworks are characterized by their minimalist, natural style. To translate the core themes of her art, freedom and connection, into an abstract painterly language, Christina uses linear textures and organic, transparent forms and layers of color.

Many of her works use color palettes of earth and green tones and are presented in handmade natural wood frames made from various types of wood.

Christina uses various sizes, from smaller works on stone paper to large-format works on canvas. She creates in collections based on the seasons, all of which tell their own stories of experiences and discoveries in nature.

Her process is guided by these sources of inspiration that surround her in the special Palatinate region where she lives. The realization of her visions in the form of certain compositions, shapes and colors follows intuitively.

Artist Biography

When she set off on a cycling trip through southern Europe in 2017, which lasted several months, Christina's artistic journey began, albeit only in retrospect. What initially seems like an escape from the system then turns into a personal journey and the discovery of one of her most important values from then on. Freedom.

Her travels to Colombia then inspire her not only through its incredibly beautiful and inspiring landscape, but also through its rich arts and crafts tradition. It is a place where she sees her creativity blossom. With her paints in her travel backpack, she paints in the most diverse places in nature: In the rainforest. On the beach. In the mountains. On rivers. In the desert.

Filled with all these impressions, Christina decides to move to southern Germany, to the Palatinate. The Palatinate Forest became her source of inspiration and she set about exploring her own artistic signature through intuitive painting.

The birth of her first child then marked a profound transformation for her and art became an expression of her deepest longings. The more Christina explores what she longs for in the hustle and bustle of everyday life with two small children, the clearer and more focused her art becomes. Her own style begins to take shape.

What she is looking for in life is now also reflected in her painting: peace, harmony, gentleness, authenticity, naturalness and minimalism.

In her paintings, she depicts the values of freedom and connection in an abstract way. She shows them as components that are mutually dependent and fertilize each other. Thus Christina's style shows root-like textures that are intended to characterize the connection to nature and organic, transparent forms that radiate a certain lightness and freedom.

Christina now exhibits locally and internationally. Among other things, she presented several paintings in an exhibition in Madrid.
